Why every automaker is becoming an energy company

Friends, I want to share an observation from the energy and tech worlds.
Automakers — from Tesla to GM — are moving into stationary batteries: sales doubled in two years, and installations could exceed 110 GWh/year by 2030.
- Drivers: rising demand from data centers and large-scale electrification of transport and industry.
- Tesla leads, but GM announced sodium-ion batteries and is developing a new LMR chemistry.
- Sodium-ion: cheap, easier to cool, and more resilient supply chains.
Why it matters: revenue diversification, margin expansion and supply-chain strengthening.
Should automakers accelerate entry into energy storage or wait for confirmed demand?
