Google and the FBI: group sends fake IT specialists to victims' offices

Colleagues, a note for cybersecurity professionals: Google and the FBI detailed a tactic used by the Silent Ransom Group.
- The group sends fake IT personnel to offices (January–May) to extract data via USB or establish remote access.
- They concurrently use phishing, phone calls and social engineering to trick victims into installing screen-sharing software.
- Afterwards they threaten to publish stolen data on their site, demanding ransom without encrypting files.
Why it matters: combining physical access with cyber techniques greatly increases leak risk.
