Black founders raised $643M in 2026 — highest since 2022, but success is concentrated

Friends, a quick note from startups and venture capital: Crunchbase reports that year-to-date companies founded by Black entrepreneurs have raised $643M.
That's nearly 70% of last year's $942M, concentrated in 34 deals — leaders: SambaNova ($350M), Noviq ($75M), Harper ($47M).
By comparison, US startups raised $252B in the same period — the share of Black founders remains minimal.
Crunchbase points to limited access to networks and early-stage contacts, and says the market downturn hit these companies harder.
Why it matters: a rise in dollars does not equal systemic improvement in access to capital.
What should investors and the ecosystem do?
