France Confirms Personal Data Breach at Agency Issuing Passports and IDs

Colleagues, I draw your attention to a confirmed data breach at Agence Nationale des Titres Sécurisés (ANTS).
What happened: ANTS detected an attack on 15 April and on 20 April confirmed a leak — names, dates and places of birth, postal and email addresses, and phone numbers were exfiltrated.
Scope: ANTS has not disclosed the number; a hacker reportedly offered a database of 19 million records. The investigation is ongoing; affected individuals are being notified.
Recommendations: monitor official notices, be vigilant against phishing, and update security settings — I will monitor developments.
Why it matters: a leak of identity data elevates the risk of fraud and targeted attacks.
What priority actions should governments and organisations take?
